The six girls boarding schools in Dehradun

Welham Girls' School

Founded in January 1957 by Hersilia Susie Oliphant, with Grace Mary Linnel as its first principal, Welham Girls' educates around 540 girls aged 12 to 18. It follows ICSE and ISC from Class 6 on a 12-acre campus in Dalanwala, close to the city centre.

Ecole Globale International Girls' School

Ecole Globale opened in April 2012 on a campus of about 40 acres at Horawala, near Sahaspur on Chakrata Road. It follows CBSE with a Cambridge option from Class 4, and offers sports such as swimming, shooting, squash and horse riding.

Hopetown Girls' School

Hopetown follows ICSE and ISC and admits girls from Class 4. Its campus at Rajawala, on the Selaqui side of the city, gives it a more open setting than schools in central Dehradun.

Unison World School

Unison follows ICSE and ISC and takes girls from Class 4, offering a smaller residential community for families who prefer that feel.

Vantage Hall Girls' Residential School

Opened in 2014 in the quieter Doonga area, Vantage Hall follows CBSE and is one of the newer girls boarding schools in Dehradun.

Him Jyoti School

Him Jyoti supports meritorious girls from across Uttarakhand, including rural and hill districts. It follows CBSE from Class 6, and because it is backed by sponsors, its fees are far below the others.

How much do girls boarding schools in Dehradun cost?

Published fees vary a lot between sources, so treat these as rough guides and confirm the current figure with each school:

Welham Girls’, Hopetown and Ecole Globale: generally around ₹8 lakh to ₹11 lakh a year
Unison and Vantage Hall: usually lower than the three above
Him Jyoti: the most affordable, thanks to sponsor support

Uniforms, travel, trips and specialist coaching are often billed separately, so ask for a complete cost sheet.

What boarding life looks like

Girls live in houses, usually grouped by age, each looked after by a resident housemistress or warden. Weekdays follow a set rhythm of classes, games and supervised evening study, and weekends bring activities, outings and time to rest. Most schools set fixed times for phone calls home and publish a calendar of visiting days.

Choosing the right school for your daughter

What are the rules on phones, calls and visits?

How admission works at girls boarding schools in Dehradun

The steps are similar at most schools. You register, submit documents, and your daughter sits an entrance test, usually covering English, maths and reasoning at her level. There's then an interaction with her and with you. For popular entry classes such as Class 4 and Class 6, start the process about a year ahead.

Documents: birth certificate, Aadhaar, recent report cards, transfer certificate and a medical fitness certificate
Visits: most schools welcome families on campus by appointment, which is the best way to judge the boarding houses

Getting ready for the first term

Most girls boarding schools in Dehradun send a detailed packing list, including uniform, bedding and winter clothing, so wait for it before shopping. Label everything, and pack a few familiar things from home. A photo or a favourite book can make the first few weeks feel much easier.

How we put this list together

We include schools based on their board affiliation, standing in the city, campus facilities and the options parents ask us about most. Fees are indicative annual figures drawn from school websites and published listings. They change every year and usually leave out one-time admission charges, so please confirm the latest figure directly with the school. Last updated: September 2026.
